Hotel Kämp is expanding with 31 rooms and opening a 1,200 square meter wellness club
Kämp Hotel 13, December 2024
Hotel Kämp will undergo a major expansion, adding 3,100 square meters to its premises. Including the historic Helander House on North Esplanade which is currently undergoing a transformation into an extension of the iconic Hotel Kämp. Moreover, Hotel Kämp will introduce a new wellness oasis with water elements as part of its expanded amenities. This expansion aims to enhance Helsinki's hospitality offerings, attracting more visitors and events to the city while providing enriching experiences for locals.
In May 2025, the Helander’s expansion project will be completed, allowing guests access to 22 brand new rooms and suites located within the newly integrated section of Hotel Kämp.
- We simply couldn't resist when the opportunity arose to integrate parts of Helander House with Hotel Kämp. This expansion along with the refurbishment of Hotel Kämp will create entirely new opportunities to attract premium events and meetings to Helsinki, says Strawberry Hotel’s COO Finland, Erika Ehrnrooth.
The Transformation of Helander House includes both the facade and improved, more energy-efficient heating and ventilation systems. Additionally, the property's current office spaces will be converted into hotel rooms. Hotel Kämp has offered Spa facilities even before, but now it will be taking it to another level by bringing in a full scale spa experience including water elements.
- Hotel Kämp’s new 1,200 square meter spa offers a unique wellness experience for both hotel guests and members. It boasts a state-of-the-art gym, yoga studio, relaxation area, saunas, experience showers, three pools, seven treatment rooms, a wellness bar, and lounge. I promise an exclusive haven for those passionate about fitness and wellbeing, says hotel owner Petter Stordalen.
The investment in Hotel Kämp is being made together with the property owner Ilmarinen.
- We and Strawberry share a mutual vision and ambition to take the next important step in the development of Hotel Kämp. Integrating these two properties is not only a logical solution to expand the hotel's capacity but also an opportunity to find synergies between the properties and operations in the block, says Ville Laurila, Leasing Manager at property owner Ilmarinen.
This new venture at Hotel Kämp is the second in a short time. Hotel Kämp's refurbishment will be carried out in phases, due to be fully completed in spring 2026. The extensive project entails refurbishing all 179 rooms and suites, adding 31 extra rooms and suites, relocating the main entrance back to its original spot facing Esplanade, elevating the lobby to new standards, and giving the bar and restaurant area a complete makeover. The hotel will be open throughout the refurbishment.
- Hotel Kämp is one of Finland's most historic buildings, filled with stories and memories. But it is also a building in continuous renewal and development. The work now being done at the hotel means that the story of Kämp continues to be written. We cherish and celebrate the hotel's soul while continuing to create a place that will be of great significance to many people in the future, says the hotel's General Manager, Tuomas Liewendahl.
