A Living Legacy of Finnish Music

Hotel Kämp's own salon music ensemble brings the hotel's musical history into the present. The House Band is a salon quintet — two violinists, a cellist, a double bassist, and a pianist — and can perform as a trio or duo as well.

Alongside traditional salon music, the House Band plays newer, lighter arrangements, from jazzy movie soundtracks to modern pop songs. The music works as background ambiance or as a showpiece, performing where and how our guests choose.

The House Band walks in the footsteps of Jean Sibelius, who was a regular guest at Hotel Kämp with his fellow artists. The musicians are alumni of the prestigious Sibelius Academy, and a few of the master's own compositions can be found in the band's repertoire.

The talented members of Kämp House Band are Lea Tuuri (violin), Sanna Kokko (violin), Markus Hallikainen (cello), Tarmo Anttila (contrabass) and Henrik Nissinen (piano).

Salon Music at Hotel Kämp

Salon music was the pop music of the 1800s and 1900s, characterized by lightness and positive tones, with arrangements drawn from operas, overtures, valses, tangos, and other dance music of its time. It was performed at homes, restaurants, hotels, spas, and on cruise ships — including the Titanic.

At the end of the 1800s and through the first decades of the 1900s, salon music was an active part of Hotel Kämp. A cellist-conductor worked from an office at the hotel, where part of an enormous collection of notes — some 4,000 salon music pieces — was stored. A variety of salon music ensembles, including Viennese groups, performed at Hotel Kämp, and guests could even request songs from a special catalogue made for them.

In 2012, the collection of notes regained public attention when Finnvox Studios donated it to the National Library of Finland, where it remains available today.

Kämp House Band

Hotel Kämp is proud to still host the House Band today — at Mirror Room brunches and on national holidays, for example. The House Band is also available to book for private events and celebrations at Hotel Kämp.

Kämp House Pianist

Hotel Kämp also has its own resident pianist. The pianist is available to play at private events such as weddings, cocktail events, or Afternoon Tea. Repertoire spans classical, jazz, and pop music.
